Development of Engineering Data on Advanced Composite Materials

Engineering data have been generated on four graphite reinforced advanced composite materials SP313 graphiteepoxy by 3M AS3004 graphite polysulfone by Hercules AS4397 graphitepolyimide by Hercules and T300 F178 graphitepolyimide by Hexcel. Prepreg tape was obtained form each vendor and laminates and test specimens prepared at UDRI. Five different static mechanical properties tension, compression, flexure, inplane shear, and interlaminar shear were measured on three fiber orientations 0, 90, and plus or minus 45 at four different temperatures -67 F, 72 F, and two elevated temperatures. Tensile fatigue, creep, and stress-rupture tests were also conducted and four thermophysical properties thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, specific heat, and glass transition temperature were determined. Environmental agings at 160 F and 100 R.H. were conducted on each material and the effects of this exposure on several mechanical properties were determined.
