Abstract:

A general equation has been developed for determining the relative measure of variability of pollutant concentrations in air. From the general equation, specific equations can be developed for any set of time-averaging periods including the 5-min.1-hr., 5-min.24-hr., and 1-hr.24-hr. systems. From a continuous series of data over a long sampling period, the maximum concentration for the short time-averaging period and the average concentration for the longer time-averaging period are determined for use in calculating the relative measure of variability.
