Polyhedral expansion of the monocarbacobaltacarborane anion C5H5-Co-CB7H8- with NiBr2-2 glyme in the presence of C5H5- affords several neutral isomeric complexes of the formula C5H52NiCoCB7H8 which contain formal NiIV and CoIII vertices, and which are isoelectronic with C5H52Co2C2B6H8. The structure of one isomer of the latter has previously been reported the mixed cobalt-nickel compounds exist in more numerous isomeric forms. An x-ray structural investigation of one isomer of this complex is reported herein.
