The Pollyanna Program calculates the response of three-dimensional structures embedded in continuous media with which they interact. A simplex tetrahedral element is used and solved by lumped force, lumped mass assumptions. A very large number of degrees-of-freedom can be solved with the CDC 6600 computer extended-core, random-access storage or the CDC 7600 large core memory. Structural walls are modeled by lumped node lines through the thickness of the wall. Coupling between media and structure is accomplished by a matched node pair interface model which assumes a small relative displacement of the matched nodes. Material response is assumed to be either elastic or piecewise linear elasticplastic with hysteresis. Solution speeds vary from 100 microseconds per element time step for an elastic material on the CDC 7600 to about 500 microseconds per element time step for a hysteretic soil material on the CDC 6600.
