Abstract:

In recent years, the rate of expansion in the field of exercise evaluation and physical fitness training has prompted governmental, professional, educational, and private institutions to develop educational programs, professional standards, and co-operation among the various disciplines involved in stress testing, cardiac rehabilitation, and adult fitness. Cardiac Exercise Technicians have become important personnel in many aspects of preventive, rehabilitative and maintenance fitness programs. Beyond their normal responsibilities and roles during graded exercise test administration, they may also serve as efficient, competent assistants for exercise sessions and emergency procedures. This article is a presentation of the background organization, and a description of one such educational program The Cardiac Exercise Technician Workshop of the LaCrosse Exercise Program, University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Included are considerations of specific interest to exercise technicians and those involved in graded exercise testing and training. Author
