Abstract:

The effect of Magnus coefficients, projectile spin rate, and pitching motion on lateral displacement of a ballistic trajectory is investigated by use of a six degree of freedom simulation. The coefficients had no significant effect. Increased spin rate extends the projectile impact point both down range and cross range. Oscillations induced by rate motion increased the lateral deviation but oscillations induced by an initial displacement did not. Author
