Abstract:

The reactions between U, UO or UO2 and NO or NO2 have been studied by cocondensation of the reactants in Ar matrices at 14 K. Infrared spectra of the species in the matrices were recorded with a Fourier transform spectrometer. The vibrational mode frequencies of several new species were identified by use of isotopic substitution. The UO2 ion was produced by three different reactions and was found to be linear. The nitrides of uranium, UN and UN2, were produced by two methods UN2 was found to be linear. The species UO could not be produced in sufficient quantities to be observed by any of the following reactions U NO2, U NO or UO I. Author
