Abstract:

The line locations absorption coefficient and quenching of NO vibration in the v 1 and v 2 by N2 have been experimentally determined. Integrated absorption coefficients corrected for a thermal equilibrium distribution are S sub lu1 - 2 P15 420sq.cm.atm at 2291.63cm and S sub lu2 - 3 R2 653sq.cm.atm at 2286.72cm. Quenching of NOv by N2 at 297 K was found to give rates of k 2.4 times 10 to the -12 power cu.cm.sec for NOv 2 and k 3.0 times 10 to the -12th powercu.cm.atm for NOv 1. An estimate of 3 times 10 to the -13th power cu.cm.sec was found for quenching of NOv 2 by NO at 297 K. Author
