Abstract:

The National Transportation Safety Board aircraft accidentincident data base covering the years 1964 through 1975 was screened to select those accidents involving aircraft of 12,500 pounds gross weight or greater in which the potential of low-level wind shear as a factor could not be discounted. The successive filtering techniques employed eliminated all but 25 of the 59,465 accidents or incidents which comprised the total data base used. The presence of a low-level wind shear was a distinct possibility in these 25 takeoff or approach and landing accidentsincidents. Author
