Abstract:

The study was conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station WES from 1 August 1975 to 20 April 1977 to aid the Directorate of Facilities and Engineering DFAE at Fort Carson, Colorado, in initiating a long-range program to improve the management of the installations natural resources and the maintenance of environmental quality. The WES developed the reliable instrumented environmental data system that was used to acquire the quantitative data reported. This report describes the rationale used to select the water-quality, meteorologic, and hydrologic parameters that were measured and recorded, and the system of instruments used to collect the data. Examples of the data collected are also presented. Preliminary analyses were made of some of the data collected on water-quality, meteorologic, and hydrologic conditions, and comparisons were made with the state of Colorado water-quality standards and surrounding meteorological conditions as observed at nearby weather stations.
