Abstract:

The management intern program was introduced in mid 1967 by the Naval Ordnance Systems Command as a method for selecting and training outstanding young men and women who possess the talent and potential to develop into responsible high level managers within one of the functional administrative or engineering areas of the command. This report evaluates the effectiveness of the program through an investigation of Maslows Hierarchy of Needs and Herzbergs Two-Factor Theory of Motivation fulfillment or absence within the program. As a result of this report, it is determined that the program is basically effective in providing a means for enticing personnel to pursue a career in the field of management or engineering within civil service.
