Abstract:

Fluorescent acridine moieties can be synthesized into narcotic structures related to meperidine and fentanyl. Substituted acridines are a prolific source of fluorescent narcotic-type structures with widely varying physical and spectroscopic properties. A wide range of synthesis methods are available by which favorable spectroscopic properties can be introduced into narcotic structures. Such spectral properties include the quantum yield of fluorescence, wavelength of excitation and emission and the extinction coefficient of absorption. Preliminary pharmacological data are reported for meperidine and fentanyl derivatives. Author
