Abstract:
The disturbance to very-low-frequency and low-frequency propagation produced by numbers of large-yield, low-altitude nuclear detonations is considered. The consequent lower-ionospheric irregularity both reduces the coherent reflection and produces an incoherently scattered component of the signal. These effects are found to be appreciable at detonation densities in the range of those considered in conjunction with large-scale attack scenarios. Author
