A three-dimensional computer program for high-velocity impact problems is described. The numerical technique is based on a Lagrangian finite- element formulation in which the equations of motion are integrated directly rather than through the traditional stiffness matrix approach. Tetrahedron elements are formulated for large strains and displacements, and nonlinear material strength and compressibility effects are included to account for elastic-plastic flow and wave propagation. A sliding surfaces capability is also included.
