Abstract:

Conventional wisdom holds that the more regular the arrival process andor service times are, the better system performance will be. Examples of contrary behavior are presented in three cases loss systems, processor sharing, and multi-channel queues without losses. In each case, it is shown that making service times more regular can make system performance worse. Author
