Afterglow electron density decay mechanisms and energy losses in high energy argon and helium plasmas including measurements of ion conversion rates were carried out. A computational study of the hydrogen and helium afterglows was also completed. Development of a HCN submillimetre laser included work on the significance of mode compression near the critical density. Microwave electron temperature measurements in a current modulated plasma column were also undertaken. Author
