Abstract:

Two methods for improving the performance characteristics of the magnesium dry cell have been explored. In the first approach, the improvement was obtained with a hybrid system consisting of the magnesiummanganese dioxide MgMnO2 dry battery and the nickel cadmium Ni-Cd rechargeable battery under intermittent discharge conditions. In the second approach the benefit in performance was achieved by insulating the MgMnO2 battery against heat losses.
