This report is concerned with measurements of the viscoelastic response functions over a wide range of frequency and pressure that are required for the mechanical characterization of lubricating oils. Both rheo-optical light scattering and mechanical ultrasonic methods are required to obtain the viscoelastic data. Several developmental aspects of the implementation of these techniques as well as some of the results are discussed herein.
