Abstract:

An important optical characteristic of seawater is the ratio of the light scattering index sigma to the attenuation index epsilon, called the quantum survival parameter, which in many cases is known with sufficient confidence. The widely used method of determination of this quantity involving separate measurement 1 of sigma and epsilon is frequently assoicated with large instrumental errors.
