Abstract:

Purely chemical laser emission at 3.6 to 4 micrometers from HCl has been achieved in a transverse flow device. The pumping reaction was the well known Cl HI yield HCl I reaction. Atomic chlorine was produced chemically from the reaction of NO with ClO2. The maximum power obtained from this system was 4 W, which corresponded to a chemical efficiency of 9 based upon the fraction of pumping reaction energy that goes into vibration.
