Abstract:

Legibility is of fundamental importance in pattern recognition. Legibility of five sets was predicted by using maximum-minimum Euclidean distance of separation in a feature space spanned by truncated, two-dimensional, discrete Fourier spatial frequency components of alphanumeric symbols. For a symbol pair, as distance of separation increased the number of errors decreased and the majority of the errors occurred within the five nearest symbols to the symbol.
