Abstract:

Excitation of nitrogen and oxygen molecules is the primary event in the excitation of the atmosphere. Theoretical calculations of the electronic properties of these molecules required for the prediction of optical emissions from normal and disturbed atmospheres have been made, including the analysis of the electronic structure of excited states of nitrogen.
