Abstract:
Migration of energy from irradiated semiconducting solids to acceptor molecules in contact with the solid surface has been experimentally examined and models have been developed to account for the extent-of-reaction, kinetics and selectivity observed. Fast-detection techniques have been developed to follow, on a time-scale of milliseconds, the kinetics of fast processes initiated at semiconducting metal oxide surfaces by UV-illumination and studies included examination of interfaces between Metal Oxides and Aqueous Electrolytes by ESR, plus the study of Metal OxideGAS interfaces by a Dynamic Mass Spectrometric technique. Very low quantum efficiencies were measured for photoassisted processes involving adsorption, desorption or reaction of gases at the flash-illuminated surfaces.
