Abstract:
Measurements have been carried out on scattering of ultrasonic waves by a solid spherical inclusion tungsten carbide in titanium alloy. Both direct scattering and mode-converted scattering angular distributions were measured for both shear and compressional incident waves. The scattering from an arbitrary shape was expressed in terms of an integral equation from which an improved Born approximation was developed. In this formulation, the Born approximation reduces to the Rayleigh limit at low frequencies.
