The generation of steady-state, high-density, fully-ionized plasmas in magnetically confined arcs and jets has been studied. Finite-beta waves and instabilities appropriate to the ionospheric and magnetospheric plasmas have been investigated. Anomalous resistivity due to instability produced turbulent fluctuations has been studied. Experimental simulations of laser-plasma interactions have been performed in the microwave region.
