This report describes the results of an algal assay used in studying the toxicity of various soil and sediment samples from the Trident base, located on Hood Canal, in Washington state. Analyses for 24 elements were made on the samples, and analyses for Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn were made on the algal cells cultured in nutrient-enriched extracts of the samples. Some of the samples were toxic according to the algal assay, but there was almost no correlation between the concentrations of Pb, Cu, and Zn in the algal cells and those in the test samples there were no data on the Cd content of the soil and sediment samples.
