Postattack Medical Care Impact on Survivors' Work Force.

The Research Triangle Institute RTI, has developed two computer simulation models that can be applied to health related problems in a range of geographic resource areas in a post nuclear weapon detonation environment. After the basic research was done, submodels were developed to deal with some specific problems. The one considered here addresses the projection, through the exercise of the submodel, of the quality of survivorship of the nuclear attack injured. This Physical Demands Potential PDP submodel was designed in earlier research the present report is concerned with a hypothetical case study to test and illustrate the PDP submodel. Under stipulated hypothetical attack conditions for two adjacent counties, the average effective work force for the year following the hypothetical attack emerges as 63.2 percent and 65.6 percent of the survivors. The detailed findings of the submodel can show, on a month-to-month basis, the percent of the preattack work force that is able to meet the physical demands of each of the occupational categories required in the recovery period.
