Abstract:

An electrochemical accelerated compatibility test method is described. This description includes the theory of the test method, the equipment required to perform the tests and the method for the preparation of the test specimens. A complete step by step experimental procedure is outlined which includes the range of values used for experimental variables such as scan rate, voltage scale, electrolysis current and relaxation time. The determination of metal dissolution and its relationship to hydrazine decomposition rates is discussed. The results of a series of tests incorporating variables such as metal, metal pretreatment, hydrazine impurities, temperature and time are presented. A statistical analysis of the results using a Graeco-Latin cube design is included which evaluates the relative effect of each of the variables on the value of the equilibrium decomposition current isubo. Recommendations for material selection and cleaning and passivation techniques are presented in the light of the of the experimental results.
