The immune response to a representative intracellular animal parasite, toxoplasma gondii was investigated. Phagocytosis, humoral antibody response, as well as immediate and delayed hypersensitivity were investigated. The results indicate a reciprosal relationship between circulating sensitized lymphocytes and the quantity of humoral antibody the inhibition of toxoplasma growth in vitro by macrophages from infected guinea pigs and the release of isotope from mouse mastocytes coated with purified toxoplasma antigen by lymphocytes from infected guinea pigs.
