Abstract:
A special study of the particular problems associated with the training operations of tactical fire control lasers was performed by this Agency during the period January-July 1976. The feasibility of using a retroreflector equipped target and filtering the output of the ANVSS-1 laser rangefinder LRF was studied for use with laser rangefinders. It was concluded that at ranges of 200-300 m, a 90-percent probability of successful ranging existed when retroreflectors were used. For ranges from 300 m out to 1 k, the probability decreased to 75 percent. From 2000-3000 m, the probability further decreased to approximately 20 percent for successful ranging. Author
