Two terrestrial surveys were conducted at Newport Army Ammunition Plant in April and October of 1974 to form a data base for environmental assessment and to measure any significant ecological disruption due to installation operations. No extensive damage was found. Disparities in the structure of some ecological communities e.g., birds between cantonment and less-disturbed areas of the installation were apparently due to habitat differences. An abundance of predators and high densities of prey populations suggest that normal faunal community structures exist at the installation. Author
