Abstract:

A diurnal rhythm of mitotic activity with a maximum in the afternoon hours 1500 hours and a minimum at night 2400 was established in the epithelium of the white rat colon. During acute radiation sickness, the diurnal rhythm of mm mitoses is maintained with a maximum in the evening hours 1800-2100 hours and a minimum in the morning hours 0600 hours. The average daily mitotic coefficient of crypt epithelial cells of the rat colon during acute radiation sickness is higher than in control animals.
