Abstract:

Synthetic inhibitors, antioxidants, have several unusual features as radioprotective agents, including the extreme dose dependence of the antiradiation action of the inhibitors, gradual change with increase in the amount of inhibitor administered from radioprotective to radiosensitizing properties, and possibility of affecting the course of radiation sickness by adding inhibitors after irradiation at intervals of about 24 to 48 hours.
