Abstract:

The performance of a five-ply panel is related to the thickness, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and dimensional movement with changes in moisture content of the crossband. Knowing these properties of the crossband, core, face, and back, it is possible to predict the dimensional movement of the panels with changes in moisture. Synthetic crossbands have dimensional properties for optimum performance they, like veneer crossbands, should be placed with the strongest and most stable direction restraining the core, face and back. the gluing process may markedly alter the properties of the synthetic crossband. Consequently, the crossband should be evaluated as a three-ply parallel laminate as well as a single ply. Author
