Abstract:
Attention is focused on the resonant interaction between a single charge, treated relativistically, and two coherent electromagnetic waves. The simplicity of context is exploited to elucidate aspects of the nonlinear theory of induced Compton scattering. In this paper I, a well-defined problem of finite duration is studied, namely the induced scattering of plane radiation pulses of arbitrary shape. The factors which affect the net wave conversion from one pulse to the other by a nearly resonant charge are investigated analytically. Author
