Abstract:
An antenna is developed for use aboard amphibious ships and at fixed unit command centers ashore. Electrical concept feasibility is demonstrated in laboratory tests. The 50-60-lb vhf broadband dipole antenna will function as the electrical equivalent of the 400-lb AS-2231 aboard ship, and, used ashore, will enable a significant reduction in number of vhf antennas required at command sites. The effort demonstrates that a universal vhf broadband antenna - capable of satisfying the diverse requirements of the Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Army - is not likely to be achieved. Author
