Abstract:
This report describes the basic scheme used in the Naval Surface Weapons Centers wind tunnels for measuring static forces and moments on wind- tunnel models. The general fundamentals used in the design of balances are explained as well as how the calibrations are conducted and how the data are reduced. The basic technique consists of using multiple combined loads in the calibration of the balance and in using an iterative approach to reduce the balance electrical output to aerodynamic loads.
