Abstract:
Analysis of variance was applied to the residual breaking strengths of lightweight fabrics seared in 612 combinations of treatment and external conditions. Velocities of the running cordage greater than 13.5ms caused increasingly severe damage, particularly at higher contact times. Silicone treatments were helpful in reducing searing of nylon fabrics if applied in sufficient quantity. Aromatic polyamide fabric did not lose strength by searing in the conditions examined.
