The conditions of the construction of an earth-filled dam on a permafrost foundation have a substantial influence on the thermal mode of the dam during the initial operating period. Construction conditions include the methods and time of construction of a dam thermophysical characteristics of the soils from which the dam is made thickness of the layers of soil with which the dam is filled during the summer and autumn seasons and duration of that period climatic conditions and duration of the winter-spring period, during which dam building operations are postponed.
