Abstract:

The main purpose of Michael Greenwoods recent article Simultaneity Bias in Migration Models An Empirical Examination, Demography, Vol. 12, No. 3, August 1975, pp. 519-536 is to examine empirically the importance of simultaneity bias in standard models of migration. The problem of disentangling cause and effect between migration and explanatory variables is an important one that has plagued nearly every migration researcher and hence deserves careful attention. However, the commentator feels that Greenwoods attempt to assess the importance of simultaneity bias and his study in general are flawed in several respects.
