Abstract:
Probably the most tragic thing that has been done with distant visual acuity measurements to date is their use as the major criterion by which to judge whether a person is blind or sighted. The definition of legal blindness which is used in this country and which is based so heavily on distant visual acuity, has done more harm to partially sighted people than any other definition used and promulgated by our federal and state governments.
