Abstract:

Owing to a confluence of demographic and economic forces, higher education enjoyed a remarkable era of growth that peaked in the mid-1960s and ended abruptly early in the 1970s. This paper presents a factural description of the national demographic and economic context of higher education in general, and offers interpretations of what it portends specifically for community colleges.
