Abstract:

The Handbook on Electron Fractography was prepared with the primary intent of assisting in analyses of service failures in the aerospace industry. The work involved the conducting of a literature search to provide a thorough state of the art survey of replication techniques, and fracture surface feature interpretations, and bibliography of 181 articles available in the open literature. The program included testing of over 300 specimens of various materials failed under a wide range of known environmental conditions. The alloys selected were of primary interest to the aerospace industry and included aluminum, steel, nickel, and titanium base alloys.
