Abstract:
The Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility conducted a study for the possible redesign of the facepiece-visor assembly of the current aluminized firefighters crash-resuce protective hood to provide for verbal communication and the exchange of fresh air when the wearer is in a standby situation with the visor open. Adjustable hood design concepts and techniques were investigated. Commercially available hoods, hood frames, materials and hardware were procured and performance tests conducted.
