Abstract:
The authors present an analysis of war wounds of the extremities of 110 persons wounded in the Arab-Israeli October War who were sent for treatment in the recovery phase. The extensive use of projectiles containing an explosive charge as compared to bullets and the high share of wounds inflicted by these weapons 84.5 percent represent the typical pattern of the injuries. A brief survey of modern weapons and their effect on personnel is given on the basis of examination of the effects of the wounds after a considerable time has lapsed. The basic elements of surgical tactics in the treatment of these injuries are presented.
