Pagination or Media Count:
This report is a collection and distillation of known information about stress intensity factors for three-dimensional problems. Particular emphasis is placed on solutions which are applicable to the problems encountered in solid propellant motors. Each section of the report is organized around a particular configuration of crack and surrounding media cracks in an infinite domain, embedded cracks in a semi-infinite domain, etc. The cracks which are considered are planar with a circular, elliptical, or parabolic shape. In certain cases such as crack surface intersections or plate problems the complete answers are unknown. Controversies and unresolved problems are discussed in the hope of making the limitations of the various solutions clear to the reader.
