This report establishes the utility of direct time domain computer solutions to analyze and predict transient radiation from wire antennas. The radiation fields from a monopole antenna excited by a short video pulse have been computed for several elevation aspect angles and critically compared to previously published CW results. Time domain performance parameters have been defined and used to describe the goodness of short pulse antenna performance. A physical interpretation of the radiation mechanism associated with short pulse excited monopoles was reviewed to provide the radar with the basic underlying principles of short pulse radiation and an understanding of time domain radiated fields.
