Raman spectroscopy is used to examine the packing order and amount of random hydrocarbon chain conformers for lipid multilayer assemblies. Multilayer samples of phosphatidylcholine prepared by evaporation of the solvent from a chloroform solution of phosphatidylcholine were found to have a similar order to phosphatidylcholine powder and water dispersions. Blodgett-Langmiur multilayers of Behenic Acid, Barium Behenate and Barium cis-13 Erucate were found to have crystalline order with a high degree of random conformers present. Author
