Abstract:
The flow in the wall layer of a turbulent boundary layer, which is two-dimensional and steady in the time-mean sense, is investgated. The theory is motivated by recent experimental evidence that reveals that the wall layer is a region which is laminar-like in character and which is dominated by the brusting phenomenon. A solution is obtained for the time dependent flow in the wall layer which is valid during the period between bursts from this is a mean profile is defined. It is demonstrated that the wall region flow is not universal but exhibits a strong dependence on pressure gradient. The theory is compared directly with experimental data and the agreement is very satisfactory. Author
