A microstructure or effective stiffness viscoelastic laminated beam theory is derived where individual reinforcing and matrix layers are modeled as viscoelastic Timoshenko beams. Kinetic, potential and dissipative energies are determined for individual beam layers modeled as viscoelastic Timoshenko beams with constitutive equations given by the standard linear model. The individual energies are summed over the layers in the beam, a smoothing operation is applied and an energy principle is applied to yield the equations of motion and boundary conditions for a viscoelastic laminated beam theory.
